APC drags PDP Candidate for Lagos Bye-Election to Court

The All Progressives Congress has dragged the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party for Lagos East Senatorial bye-election to the Federal High Court in Ikoyi for alleged forgery.

The Lagos APC alleged that BABATUNDE GBADAMOSI forged his WAEC certificate and lied under oath, and wants the court to have him disqualified from the election on December 5, 2020.

The lawsuit was filed by the APC’s lawyers, KEMI PINHEIRO and KEMI BALOGUN, who are both Senior Advocates of Nigeria, while the Independent National Electoral Commission was joined as respondent.

A statement by the APC’s Publicity Secretary, OLUSEYE OLADEJO, confirmed the filing of the lawsuit in court today, but did not state whether it has been fixed for hearing.

Meanwhile; the Independent National Electoral Commission has started the training of its officials for the bye-election for Lagos East Senatorial District.

The INEC ad-hoc staff undergoing training will also be used for another bye-election for the vacant seat of Kosofe Constituency Two in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The training, which is meant to last for three days, covers Presiding Officers, Assistant Presiding Officers, Collation Officers, and Returning Officers.

INEC spokesman, FEMI AKINBIYI, told newsmen that the commission was determined to ensure that the forthcoming elections are free, credible and acceptable to all.

AKINBYI said members of the National Youth Service Corps would be used for the bye-elections in Lagos State.
