Court fixes February 21 for judgment on Atiku’s qualification for president

Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, will on February 21 next year know whether he would be able to contest the 2023 presidential election.

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has set aside that day for judgment in a suit challenging Atiku’s qualification to contest for the office of the President of Nigeria.

The lawsuit was filed by a group known as Incorporated Trustees of Egalitarian Mission for Africa, which claims that Atiku was not a Nigerian citizen.

Respondents in the suit are the People’s Democratic Party, Independent National Electoral Commission, and the Attorney General of the Federation.

The Adamawa State Government also secured the court approval to join in the matter as a respondent to defend Atiku’s origin from the state.
