FG asks court to order retrial of Orji Uzor Kalu

The Federal Government has asked the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal to order a fresh trial former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is accusing Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who is the Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, of defrauding Abia State of seven point one billion naira when he served as governor from 1999 to 2003.

The Federal Government wants the Court of Appeal to set aside the judgement of the Federal High Court in Abuja on September 29th, which stopped Senator Kalu from facing fresh trial.

The government’s request was contained in two notices of appeal filed by a lawyer to the EFCC, Rotimi Jacobs, challenging the judgement delivered by Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court.
