Petitioner tells Lagos Panel how his wife died after police beating

The Lagos State Judicial Panel has heard a new petition involving one Akinmade Akinrolabu, who is blaming the police for the death of his wife.

Akinrolabu appeared before the Panel without the help of a lawyer and to testify how his wife developed complication after she watched as he was being beaten by policemen.

The Petitioner claimed that his wife, who previously had a brain tumor, fainted while watching the beating, and later died from complications.

In another development, the Lagos State Judicial Panel has asked one Afeez Mojeed to produce his bank statement to prove his case of alleged extortion by SARS operatives.

Mojeed testified before the panel that while he was being detained by SARS in Ikeja, one of the officers, identified as Abba Kyari, withdrew over eight-hundred-and-forty-nine-thousand naira from his bank account.

Mojeed also said the SARS operatives forced him to make additional cash transfer of forty-two-million to another account in 2014.

However; the Police legal counsel claimed that the petitioner was involved in fraudulent transactions and requested that he produce his bank statements.

The Petitioner’s counsel raised an objection, but the Panel’s Chairman, Justice Doris Okuwobi ruled in favor of the Police, adjourned the case to February 26, 2021.
